Progress on the walking trail.
This project has extended into 2026 partly because of its scope extending along half of our property, and much of this section is next to a wetland that has standing water during winter and spring. So we cannot work on it or use it during the winter, and spring . However, we look forward to a pleasant nature walk during summer and fall.
Tasks this year included clearing the overhanging brush that has grown over time. Likewise, it has been necessary to control the grasses and weeds that spread perpetually from the wetland buffer.
This the first year that we have mowed the entire pathway entirely. This moving requires the flail mower on the tractor and leaves behind a thick layer of clippings, which need to be raked away.
Completing the west-most section required leveling the soil, which is filled with mounds and holes that make mowing difficult and walking an treacherous experience.
I spread a layer of rocks from our large rock pile and imported soil to fill the uneven places. Then I leveled the pathway and sowed tall fescue grass seeds along the newly filled section.
Now we need moisture for the grass to germinate and grow.
